INSTRUCTIONS

For The

YELLOW BOOK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

This project grew out of the preparations for the workshop on work clothes/overall buttons at the NBS National Show in August, 2011. As color pictures of work clothes buttons were being sought and cataloged we realized that this would be an excellent opportunity to replace the old black and white images in what we referred to as the Yellow Book with sharp, clear color images of all the buttons on all the plates in the book. This turned out to be a very ambitious project, and we soon found out that we were not going to readily locate pictures of every button. We made a good start, but in order to complete the project we need your help.

Many of you have numerous work clothes/overall buttons in your collections. We are asking that you take a look at the new improved plates as far as we have been able to complete them, and take note of those that have not been replaced by color pictures. Then, we hope you will go to your collection and look to see if you have any of the missing buttons. If you find some, we are asking that you send us pictures so that we can continue to fill in every missing button with a new color image.

Pictures of the new improved plates as they currently stand will be available in living color on the NBS  website: www.nationalbuttonsociety.org. These plates will be updated periodically as new pictures are received and added.

Here is what we need for you to do to get the pictures to us in usable form:

1. Pictures must be in jpg or pdf format.

2. Pictures must be at least 300dpi – 600dpi is preferable.

3. These need to be clean buttons in good condition and sharp, clear pictures or scans.

4.  Please send these pictures to either Lou Yeargain at lryeargain@att.net or to Jerry DeHay at jmdehay@aol.com.

We will update the plates periodically as new pictures are added. It will be interesting to see if we can actually find all of these buttons. Which one will be the last one found? One thing we have learned is that a lot of what we assumed were the more common of these buttons may actually be the most rare.

Thank you for your help!  Let the quest begin!!
