PATRIOTIC BUTTONS
STATUE OF LIBERTYThis is a stamped brass, silvered design pierced in the border, with steel back and wire shank. The statue was a gift to America from the people of France. It arrived in sections at New York City in 1885 and money for the pedestal was obtained by public donation. Grover Cleveland dedicated the completed statue in October 1886. The button is most likely contemporary with the completion of the statue. The
wooden statue of liberty has the design pressed into the wood and painted. Circa
1930-45. PATRIOTIC SETThe
last word in patriotic wear during the early 40’s was a set if six All-American
symbols. Uncle Sam is missing from
my set. Included are the Statue of
Liberty, the flag, the Capitol, an American Eagle, and the Liberty Bell.
